Re: BMS laptop battery, fuse link blown ?
Thanks for the reply.
Perhaps we don't understand each other but for me the basic knowledge in the electronics sector is Ohm's laws, Kirchooff's principles, operational amplifiers etc... I know these very well both theoretically and practically because I studied them at the University, but for fun and necessity I am a technician myself, even if I know very well that I can't have the experience of a professional technician.
So I don't have all the technical skills on laptop batteries, except in its...

Re: BMS laptop battery, fuse link blown ?
I am realizing that communicating in written form is not enough to convey what a person really knows. It's not clear to me what makes it clear that I don't have the basic knowledge. Can you explain ? Thank you....

BMS laptop battery, fuse link blown ?
Hi everyone,
I replaced the cells of a Toshiba satellite battery that was almost 100% charged but the voltage was 0V at the ends of the connector.
I tried to reset the BMS by short-circuiting the positive pole of the battery pack with the positive pole of the connector but without success.
In the meantime I bought a new battery but looking at the battery pcb, I found this fuse

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
I read that sometimes if the BMS doesn't work well, it can happen that the voltage between the extremes of the battery pack and the extremes + and - on the connector are different but I opened the battery box and I found 12.47 V at both extremes of the pack batteries than on the + and - of the external connector, about 4.2v on each pair in series, while Windows always "sees" a 5%.
So it still happens that with Power adapter and battery both present, after a while the amber charging...

Re: Toshiba P855 and P850 LA-8391p AC adapter goes into protection
Ok, better smd but i'll have to wait because in addition to the 2 4.12k resistors, i also need a ferrite bead HCB1608KF-121T30_0603 but i would like to buy them both in the same shop for a maximum of 10 units, to avoid disproportionate shipping costs.
For the moment i have looked on Farnell, Mouser, eBay and others but either they have one or the other, on Aliexpress yes but if I'm not mistaken large quantities like 1000 units.
By the way, will the 4.12k be enough at 1/4W ?

Re: Toshiba P855 and P850 LA-8391p AC adapter goes into protection
I had already seen bypassing the first mosfet as you said, what's the risk ? Not the same thing as if it was shorted ?
The 4k resistors that I had removed, on the one hand have lost their tinning, i guess I can put two of the standard non-smd type.

Re: Toshiba P855 and P850 LA-8391p AC adapter goes into protection
I wanted to use this MB as a spare, and at the moment the CPU is missing and also the PR221 (ACDRV) and PR222 (CMSRC) resistors that i had put in the other MB and also the PL151 ferrite is missing. In these conditions,
Mosfets 1 - PQ203
Source - Drain 0Ω
Source - Gate 46Ω
Gate - Drain 46Ω
Mosfets 2 - PQ204
Source - Drain open
Source - Gate 46Ω
Gate - Drain open
REGN 6.04 v
ACDRV 0.32V

Re: AC adapter goes into protection
Near the mosfet (1 cm) there is the small power connector which is made of plastic, i covered it with kapton tapei but i don't know if it is enough to keep it from melting.
Edit:
It worries me to leave the adapter connected together with the battery for the time of the measurements, i don't want some other component to get damaged.Last edited by zioricci; 05-16-2023, 05:30 AM.

Toshiba P855 and P850 LA-8391p AC adapter goes into protection
Hi everyone,
I had two identical motherboards, LA-8391p coming from a Toshiba P855 and P850 laptop
one has been repaired and i would like to do the same with the other one that has a power problem.
Schematic: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=558914#post558914
The problem: without the battery inserted, if i connect the AC adapter, the power LED lights up white normally, while if i connect the adapter with the battery already inserted, the power LED does not light up and the adapter supplies 0v, perhaps...

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
I recharged the battery, i checked almost 20' later and it was stopped at 0% and later i discovered that it was at 14% then 16% then 30% and after dinner the charge LED was finally white with 100% charge.
I don't know what happened but maybe the second recharge did her some good....Last edited by zioricci; 05-12-2023, 01:45 PM.

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
I shut down for almost 1 hour and before turning it back on the battery voltage was at 12.49 V but the percentage showing Windows remained at 4% and I got the message of
Your battery is very low Plug in Your PC now.
The LED is always orange.
Edit:
I have read part of this thread
https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=97820&highlight=BMS
and I suspected that I ruined the battery with the bench power supply that I used both...Last edited by zioricci; 05-11-2023, 01:20 PM.

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
If I'm not mistaken, I think the led goes off every time it reaches 100%. The battery is not hotter than usual, are you thinking of a shorted cell?
A while ago the laptop suddenly shut down (I'm trying to calibrate), the battery voltage is 0v and windows also says 0%, it's charging and one thing I didn't mention is that every time the charging starts, the % count stays where it initially is. When it's at 92% it stays at 92%, if at 85% it stops at 85% but if I check the battery voltage outside the laptop I notice...Last edited by zioricci; 05-11-2023, 11:12 AM.

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
Yes, I confirm that the autonomy of the laptop has a reasonable duration.
I have to ask laptopu if the cause of the LED can be due to non-calibration of the battery?
However, the few times that Windows says that the autonomy is 100% the led remained orange.

Re: Toshiba Satellite P855 charger disabled after a while
Unfortunately I bought the battery to replace the original one and I don't have any others. I could try to do a calibration by downloading it completely.
So also the LED that doesn't turn white could depend on a wrong calibration ?
