Re: ECS HT 2000 motherboard
I wanted to give you folks an update on what happened with this motherboard repair.
The caps finally came in the mail so I had to go down and get a soldering iron to start work. I ended up buying a 30W iron and asked the manager if I could bring it back if that wasn't hot enough, she said I could do that.
I got to work but quickly found out the solder didn't want to heat up at all, I fiddled around for about 45 min. and stopped. The store was closed so I couldn't get a hotter iron. I was thinking to try an older soldering...

Software Network traffic monitor
On my Macs, I use a program called Little Snitch to monitor net traffic. What I am looking for is the equivalent to that in the Windows world for XP and 7.
I was using that Zone alarm but when I updated to the latest version, the icon that let me know if traffic was going on disappeared. I was thinking to see if I can go backwards to an earlier version so I can see what is going on. But I was wondering what you folks use for that type of thing, might there be something even better than Zone Alarm ?
I did do an install of Wireshark but I don't need such detailed capability,...

Re: ECS HT 2000 motherboard deja vu !
Thanks for the memtest info, downloaded that, I didn't know the Windows memory test wasn't so good.
**I'd say caps first. It might work with only 1 stick because the caps, and with more than 1 stick the noise/garbage on the RAM voltage is just too much (more RAM sticks -> more load on the power circuit for them)**
That is exactly what I was thinking.
The only other question I had was does it matter which slots the memory go into (there are 4) ? Originally the 2 memory sticks were in slots 3 and...

ECS HT 2000 motherboard deja vu !
Well,
I acquired another computer which is an HP mid sized tower. Geeze ! HT 2000 motherboard deja vu !! Found out it had a motherboard almost like the first one I am working on, just a few differences.
There was no video at all when I powered up so I opened up the box to see if there was anything out of order. That's when I saw the motherboard was pretty much the same one the first machine had. Shut down and unplugged from power, took out all of the memory and I got beeps from the motherboard. Put the memory back in, would not boot all of the way, shut down the machine...

Re: ECS HT 2000 motherboard
Thanks a bunch PCbonez for those extra details !
Sorry, I forgot about the dimensions, here are the measurements...
OST RLZ 1800uF 6.3v 8 x 20 mm
TK ATWY 1800uF 16v 10 X 25 mm
Well, I think I will now be able to place an order and get this project going.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi folks,
I just joined up a few days ago. I found out about this place looking for capacitor related information.
I just wanted to say thanks to all of the people who took the time to give detailed answers to questions in the forum, I learned a lot from reading your posts. There are a lot of places to get info from but many do not go into details, leave important things out, or are barely readable due to poor organization and informational display. I think most of you will know what I am talking...

Re: ECS HT 2000 motherboard
Thanks for all of your replies.
I looked more carefully and here are the details...
the (6) 6.3v 1800uf OST's say RLZ 105*C O736 (* degrees, an oh not zero in front of 7)
the (3) 16v 1800uf TK's have this text - 105*C ATWY 744A
I went out to that OST place but it didn't show any data sheets for the RLZ, I didn't see that.
Well, with this extra info maybe someone will know what I should get.
Once I am able to get these parts I will let you folks know what the results is....

ECS HT 2000 motherboard
Hi Folks,
I just joined the forum and wanted to get a bit of info.
I have an ECS HT 2000 motherboard which is unstable, this board is inside an eMachines box. What happens is that the power will shut down suddenly for no reason. I have tried all kinds of stuff like trying different hard drives, clearing the CMOS, taking all cards out/then reseating them, taking out the memory/reseating it, and checking to make sure there is thermal grease on the CPU. But no matter what I try the result is the same with the power shutting down suddenly for no reason. After reading...
