Re: TCL 55S401 - No Backlight (powers on, sound, flashlight image)
Found 2 bad mosfets on back of power board aod9n50 and two bad led back lights. Replaced the mosfets and all the led strips and the tv works.

Re: TCL 55S401 - No Backlight (powers on, sound, flashlight image)
I have a TCL 55S405 with no picture, only sound. The white light on the bottom came on when I pressed the remote power button. I wanted to check the backlight power supply. I tried the suggestion of Bud M to test led voltages with the led cable unplugged. When I put the power on the PS fuse blew. Does this mean the PS is bad?

Re: Asus Memo Pad ME301T backlight issue
I tried to repair the back light circuit on an RCA tablet. The flex cable that goes to the lcd also goes to the back light. There were two visible soldered joints on one side of the cable for the back light circuit. The mother board has a dc voltage doubler circuit that boosts the battery dc voltage of 3.5 volts to 7 volts for the back light. I used a 7.5 volt wall wart and pins to tap into the flex cable and the back light lit up. Would not light with 3.5 volts.
So far I have not been able to identify what back light component is bad....

Re: Battery protection circuit chip ID
Have searched Digi-key and Mouser and can not find any SCP or thermal fuses that match this. Do you know a source?

Battery protection circuit chip ID
I have a lithion ion battery that has a bad chip in the protection circuit. The number on the chip is 10AH2. There is also a square box with the letters SC in it, probably the manufacturer.
The chip is 2 layers, black on the top and white on the bottom. About 1/8"x1/4 inch with a surface mount soder connection on each side. There is an "F" on hte pcb next to it, so it could be a fuse. This chip is connected to the source terminal of a N-channel mosfet TPC8026. Tried to get pictures, but it is too small to show anything in focus with my camera.

Vizio vw42l thin vertical colored line
The screen had thin vertical colored lines. This problem was fixed by replacing voltage controller U9(RT9164A) on the t-con board.(lc420wx7)Last edited by david37g; 01-23-2014, 12:52 PM.

Vizio GV42L picture strobing
My Vizio GV42l developed a picture display problem. The picture could be seen, but would continually flash like a strobe light. This also occurred with no video input on the blue, no sigal screen. I removed the back cover and then the the cover of the inverter board. The three capacitors were all bulged. I replaced them with new Panasonic low esr, long life caps. The strobing was removed and the picture is good.

Re: Samsung LN-52A550 vertical lines
It is unlikely that the replacement board would have exactly the same problem as the original. I had half of the screen show vertical lines on a vw42l when the ribbon cable became frayed. I replaced the cable and it was fine.

Re: Troubleshooting GV42L HDTV Main Board #3642-0032-0150(3B)
Just repaired a gv42l with 3642-0032-0150(3B) main board. I had no back light, it would power on but not off. There was 24 volts to the inverters but no back light. The mosfets on the inverter boards were grounded so there was no voltage out. Downloaded the service manual from http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult and went to the main board DCto DC trouble shooting guide. All voltages were good except U-5 Which had only 1.2 volts out instead of 1.8. I replaced it with another ACM1117a and I had a backlight...

Re: Vizio VW42l t-con repair
I have traced the output of U-9 to the LG Philips LCD chip. There is an open circuit on the bad board that is closed on the good board.
The numbers on the chip are: R8A01028FA
DINIL-0058A
728108
It is an 80 pin. I have not been able to locate a source for this chip.

Re: Vizio VW42l t-con repair
Replaced U-9 with a new RT9164 from Digi-Key. Gives the same output voltage(1.2v) as the AMC1117. Still no picture from this board. I am now trying to trace the output circuit.

Re: Vizio VW42l t-con repair
After replacing U-9 on the T-Con board with an ACM1117 I now have 1.2 volt out (not 1.6 as I originally posted), the same as my good board, however the lcd still does not go dark blue. I have also found that the original U-9 was a RT9164a not a R79164a. Digi-Key has the RT9164a. Will look further for what the problem is as time permitts.

Re: Vizio VW42L Black Picture Great Sound - Side Buttons don't Work except Power and
Is the backlight on? The screen will be light blue, the light can also be seen thru hole in the back of the panel. If it is on either the main board or the T-Con is probably bad. If it is off,and the master inverter was new, the slave inverter would be the next place to look. Check to see if the fuse is blown (small ceramic with brass end caps near cable connection). If it is blown the mosfets and controller should be replaced. Kits are available on eBay. Service manual listed elsewhere in the...

Vizio VW42l t-con repair
Best forum I have found.
After following the threads on Vizio42L "No Sound and No Picture" I have repaired my TV. The problem turned out to be a bad T-Con which I replaced. After checking all the main board voltages, which were okay and since I had a backlight( the inverters were okay) I replaced the T-Con and it worked.
There is a bad LDO (U9) on the bad T-Con which I would like to replace, to see if it will work.
Numbers on it are R79164A and 15PG9H30W. It is the same size as U33 on the main board. I can not find any reference to these number at Mouser...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi to All, I am David. I am a graduate Chemical Engineer. I retired in 1998. I have recently started repairing TVs for a hobby. This forum is full of good information. Right now I am repairing a Vizio vw42l that has no picture or sound and have found the discussions very helpful.
