Hi,
I recently noticed that if I hook a video source directly to either HDMI 2 or 3 of the TV that the screen will blink randomly - maybe 5 to 10 times a minute.
The HDMI 1 input is fine with no blinking.
Is there anything obvious that would cause this? Is HDMI 1 on a different board than 2 & 3? I don't have the back of the TV off at the moment and the pic below is from when I had to replace the Y board for another problem (missing the bottom 4" of picture).
Thanks for any insight....

Re: LG 60" Plasma TV Picture Problem
Hi,
Yeah, I've tried all of that switching (the AVR is a Pioneer Elite). I ended up going out and buying a new TV (Panasonic 65" with extended warranty to 5 years). I will take this TV apart and start exploring (again) so expect a new post as I start to fiddle around and need to know how to "X" or "Y" and where is "Z" etc.
Thanks again for the help and I do hate parting with the money!!...

Re: LG 60" Plasma TV Picture Problem
Hi CapKid,
One other thing I forgot to mention is that I run everything through an AVR to HDMI 1 on the TV. All other connections (Xbox / Wii / Patriot BoxOffice (for movies from computer)) play flawlessly - no flicker. Only the cable TV (NextBox 3) causes this flickering? Which doen't make sense to me?
Thanks for the Panasonic recommendation - this is where I may be going this PM....

LG 60" Plasma TV Picture Problem
Hi,
My TV has just recently started to lose its picture for a split second at random intervals. Say, on average, 6-12 times a minute. The loss only lasts for a fraction of a second - so I guess you could call it flickering? But it makes watching TV next to impossible!
I originally thought that it may be caused by the Rogers NextBox 3 HDPVR - which I just switched over to from Bell. But I have tried every conceivable thing (connecting through the AVR vice direct to the TV / tried the standard def box that I use upstairs on this TV / even hooked Bell back up) to confirm...Last edited by General_T; 11-09-2013, 07:55 AM.

Car Stereo LED's Burnt Out - Replace?
Hi,
The control panel of my car stereo has a couple of the LEDs burnt out and I would like to ask a couple of questions:

I checked the LEDs using "continuity" on my VOM - is this the best method to determine if they are burnt out? Two of them had no continuity.
To remove/replace them I was planning on just cutting the wire leads and pulling them out - then resolder new ones - is this the way to go?
How can I figure out where to get replacements? What voltage are they - will the LEDs have that info on them?
Thanks Appreciate any...

Re: Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem
Hi Kaboom,
I checked the resistance to ground and the VOM showed "OL" which is either open line or infinite resistance - I'm guessing infinite resistance in this case. So is it possible the wire is cut somewhere and not shorted out?
I don't know how long I have been without this LF speaker - but it has been quite a while - I am a procrastinator. I recall awhile back (years) I had the transmission replaced (long story) and after it was replaced the remote car starter...

Re: Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem
Hi Kaboom,
Yes, your right I checked the resistance on the PC Board vice the vehicle.
I did as you suggested and measured the resistance at the cables in the truck and as you were thinking there is an anomally.
3 of the 4 speakers measured 4 ohms but the suspect speaker (Front Left) measured around 2 million ohms. Is this a pretty good indicator that one or both of the wires are grounded out somewhere in the vehicle?
Thanks Again for this help.

Hi Kaboom,
I will try that tomorrow.
Would you know what the pins marked B.UP and TM means?Re: Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem

Re: Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem
Hi Kaboom,
This is a pretty basic stock radio (Clarion HCD5064) from a Hyundai Santa Fe 2003. Its rated for 100 Watts max - 25 W per channel. Actually the space by that IC is covered by a CD player which I removed to be able to see the board. So I'm guessing heat isn't a problem.
Do you get a reading from any of those eight "speaker" leads to the body of the automobile?
I would have to put the unit back together and stick it back into the auto. So what...

Re: Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem
Hi Kaboom,
I measured the outputs for the 4 speakers (there is no power on the stereo).
All 4 speakers showed 122 ohms. So does this mean that the circuit is good and that there may be a short in one of the wires going to the front left speaker? Man its gonna suck to try and find that if that's the case. I looked under the dash and there are a hockey sock bunch of wires all covered up with foam - a real rats nest!!
Please explain what you mean about a heatsink?

Help With Troubleshooting Car Stereo (Speaker) Problem
Hi,
The driver side front speaker has not worked in quite some time and I decided it was time to try and fix it.
I took the door panel off to have a look and hopefully see something obvious (loose wire), unfortunately there was nothing obvious. So I tried replacing the speaker with a brand new one, but again no sound/no change.
Next I dismantled the car dash and took the stereo out and dismantled it to have a look inside. I did find a bad capacitor 16v 2200uF (bulged top) which I replaced with a 25v 2200uF cap (supplier didn't have a 16v replacement)....

Re: Recommendation for a Power Supply for Testing
Hi Japlytic,
Well, to be honest I removed the car stereo from my vehicle because I am not getting any sound out of the Left Front Driver side speaker. I would like to be able to run the car stereo out of the vehicle and test the outputs but need a way to power it.
Unfortunately I have a bigger problem as I cannot find a wiring diagram for this unit so not even sure where to connect the power for the 12v DC.
I think I could just use a 12v battery, but again how would you figure out which...

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a variable power supply for testing. Something simple.

Reading Resistance with Multimeter
Hi,
I am new to this and am trying some very basic projects to get some sort of understanding with electronics.
I put a 1k ohm resistor on to a breadboard to see what the resistance would be. I assumed it would be the same as when it is just by itself.
Tested by itself (not on the breadboard) my multimeter (fluke 179) reads 1k ohms - as I would expect. But when I place the resistor on the breadboard - all by itself with no power - the multimeter reads .2 ohms. Why does it not read 1k ohms?
Appreciate any insight to this as I expected...

Hi Guys,
Sorry I haven't been here to respond.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I will persue them each and see what fits the best.
Cheers

Re: Plasma LG 60PG30 - Horizontal Line (Bottom)
Hi,
Update on my TV repair.
I swapped out the part and turned on the TV. I was thrilled to see that I had the whole picture back - from top to bottom - nothing missing - but there was now a thin black vertical line going across the screen at about the middle of the screen.
I was thinking that I had been shipped a faulty used part ( abit bummed out!). Anyway I had a look at my work in the back of the TV and noticed that one of the ribbon cables I had put back was not sitting perfectly so...

Re: Electronics Technician Course - Online?
Hi tom66,
I would just like to learn from the education for now.
CapKid,
Thanks for the link to CET. I am also looking at the George Brown College online info.
I know next to nothing and finding it hard to find some good/solid info to start with so figuring to try and take a structured course with an end goal of a certificate.
Thanks
