  • Re: Samsung ln40b540p8f flickering

Backlights are usually long slender boards that run up the length of your panel along the edge. From my experience I would say the backlights are the reason you are seeing the symptoms you are seeing, but not necessarily the CAUSE of the symptom. I would say this is likely a power supply issue, providing insufficient power to the backlights for them to modulate their flashing frequency which provides a dimming effect.

In the case of this TV the backlights are integrated with the power supply into a single board, shown here...so it...

I was expecting spam, but that was actually pretty useful, though a little disjointed and probably ESL

  • JVC Vm-42wv74

    Hello,

I'm trying to repair a Plasma Display (JVC Vm-42wv74) which is not turning on. This model is known to have power supply issues, enough that there aren't any on Ebay. I opened it up and found some very obviously bulging caps which I have replaced at no small expense for caps. 2x 250WV 1500uf + 2x 450WV 330 uf (these things were freaking pricey, i assume because their voltage was so high) I also re-flowed the solder around a number of loose (wiggly) caps that showed no signs of bulging.

Turns out the bulging caps weren't the issue, as I am still not getting the...

  • Re: Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280X Graphics card

What do you mean it stopped working, are you getting no video signal or BSOD? Do the fans spin when you power on the computer, and does the comp work when the card isn't in?

Was it reference design or using an aftermarket cooler/Overclock? What were temps while idle and under load?

Well holy smokes, that seems like that was it. I checked the solder joints and didn't see anything that looked like a cold solder to me, but I sucked the solder away and flowed new solder in its place anyways, and now it's working.

    Thanks Budm!

  • LC-26DV24u White Screen - Sound Ok

So I have a TV in my bedroom which I was given as a repair job due to a white screen issue. I suspected the T-Con board, but could never get it to replicate the issue after months of use. I gave it back thinking it must be something wrong with his input device, but he kept experiencing the issue so he gave it to me as a freebie. Its been sitting for months in the bedroom unused, until I got a chromecast today and figured I'd start being lazy and watch TV in bed.

Of course, since I decided to use it for personal enjoyment, lo and behold, white screen. Sound works fine, this TV has...

    the burn in is now gone after watching a bit of TV. The red sparkles have yet to come back, but when there is a signal, there are areas of the TV that kind of flash and sparkle. I tried to take a picture, but my camera can't seem to pick it up, so i'll try to describe it;
    1. The areas are about 9 pixels high and 27 pixels wide, so little rectangles.
    2. their placement is static, so no matter what channel I'm on, they are on the same spot on the screen
    3. they do not appear if the section of the TV they are on is a uniform color, so if the...

    ...and then it stopped...

I went to take a picture of it to upload to this thread, and as soon as I lifted up the camera to take a picture, the red sparkles stopped. They appeared almost exclusively at the top half of the screen, and most concentrated at the top 8th of the screen, and must only last until the unit "warms up" (I'm fixing it in my garage, and it is November).

When I plug in the set, or turn it off, I do get 10 yellow/green alternating blinks on the front LED light, which I assume is an error code

Okay, I replaced the caps (Cherry popped!) and now the TV starts up almost instantly!

Which would be great if it wasn't for the red snow, and ghost like "reflection" of the No Input image. Now this may be caused by the panel being loose ( I may have undone more screws than required.) I see Ysus boards are likely culprit, but the owner indicated it wasn't having any issues except for the slow powerup before it stopped, and the PS cap replacement resolved that issue.

    Any suggestions?

  • Re: Just a simple query?

Whaaaaaa?! Really? I thought it had to be exact. I turned away a potential customer who needed an EAX32740501 main board that I had, just because I had a part number with a different AGF# (he had an LG 47LC7DF-UB, and my board was from an LG 47LB5D-UC) are you saying it could have been compatible?

  • Re: Does anybody know of a used TV price guide?

Thanks for the update! I can't imagine trying to ship a display without fear of it cracking during shipment. Right now I'm only parting out unrepairable TVs (with cracked screens), and not getting much bite.

Each part I sell covers more than the cost of what I paid for the TV, but my money really does get tied up for a long time between when I buy it, and when I manage to sell it. It's helping me feel better about making lower and lower offers on the broken TVs when I know how much work it will be to recoup my investment....

  • Vizio VP50 HDTV10A

Bought this TV off CL with an issue powering up. The owner said it would take 2 or 3 times to get it started, and that progressively got worse. Once the TV got going it would work fine so long as it was left on, but if it was turned off, it would take a long time to get working again. The owner had some success putting a small space heater in the back, and managed to turn it on that way after warming it up, but it recently stopped powering up all together.

After looking up the model, saw that bad caps on the PS was a recurring theme. After taking it home and opening up, low and...

Okay, found out the model vo420e. There's another guy in my area who also buys and repairs tvs off CL who has shown some interest. I offered $25, we'll see.

  • Possible Purchase - Vizio

Seller was asking $150 a week ago, now asking for $100. As you can see the TV a really faded white picture, do you know what the possible causes could be?

Right now I don't know the model #, or plasma/LCD, all I know is that it's 42" still waiting for a response from the seller. I'll update the thread once I have more info...

This is my attempt and fail to remove the heatsink with a 100w iron. I think I need some solder to flow to transfer the heat properly, I couldn't get the solder to melt even a bit.Re: Vizio E421VA No Sound Through Sp...nk I need some

Mongor62, you only need to post 1 post before you can start a thread, you were supposed to do that in the introduction forum...but either way you can post a new thread now given that you have 10 posts....also to the OP Kzan, I have a replacement PS for that model on E-bay...hint hint

It's a Weller WLC-100 40 watt solder station, which from what I'm reading on here is pretty good brand, but very weak model.
