Re: Dumbest 'electronic' mistake you ever made
My first sound card was lost because I was using a screwdriver while the system was on. It slipped right out of my hand while tightening a loose fan. Sparks flew when it bounced around on top of the card but the PC was ok. The sound card never worked again.

Re: screwdriver mod.
Yeah charging is the most important. Did that with mine but used 2 rcr123 cause I had so many of them. The original nicads are now dead and a new one is just way too expensive. I get the same power except not quite as long and they keep a charge for longer periods of non use.
Glad you still put those tools to good use momaka.

Re: Stubborn solder won't leave hole!
Don't worry so much about clearing it out. I hope you haven't damaged anything with heating it so many times. If I can't clear the hole I just insert my new part right in and not worry about it and add a little bit more solder. I've never had a problem yet.
y_not gave you some excellent instructions.

Re: Your Best Dumpster Finds
You are Awesome and everyone else who is doing that!
Not quite a dumpster dive but was given dusty 17 inch Gateway monitor in perfect working condition about 8 years ago. They were going to trash it so I adopted it. Still works. Another "adopted" item just recently from someone else who was going to trash it is a translucent blue imac G3. Always wanted one of those things when they came out back in the late 90's. Now I got one ...Last edited by mutant; 01-21-2013, 01:29 AM.

Re: Powerline Adapter Mods
Good job. Hope it is still working.
I did kinda the same thing with my 10/100/1000 switchbox. It would lock up every so often. I just used an infrared thermometer to find the hottest part. Only one hot part so I sinked that chip and made more vent holes. Now it runs happily 24/7.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
This place has a lot of cool people who know alot of stuff. A real great resource here.
Congrats on fixing your monitor. Its a great feeling knowing you have saved yourself a bunch of money.
Mine hasn't flickered or had any problems yet (fingers crossed). ...

Re: shame on ameritech!
I know, you stated that earlier
I was just stating it is much better to crimp as you had done. I wasn't clear enough sorry.

Re: shame on ameritech!
Much better to crimp your connections. Should be a superior connection.
Hope you have it grounded as that was an issue in my grandfathers 1950's era home.

Re: Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L + Intel E7500
I think you'll be happy with the upgrade. Sure it's not the latest and greatest but should do the job well.
Yeah I tried the Crucial ballistix and that failed within the month.

Re: sister withdraw
Hope it works out. She'll see a big difference.
I think I would have spent the extra 15 bucks for a stick of 2 Gigs of ram especially if she does more than email and web surfing.

Re: Samsung 214tw
Did you double check those connections especially those ribbon cables? I'm sure someone can chime in with another suggestion.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Wow, I have the same monitor. Guess I can look forward to replacing some caps in the future. No problems yet. I'm certainly glad this forum exists.
I had no idea they had a shelf life. Thats good info to have. Thanks Toasty....

Re: Smoke alarm caps bad. Can anyone identify please?
Is it even worth fixing? I believe yours is close to the end of its life anyway. They won't last forever.
Here's a quote from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:
"Regardless of the detection technology used in your smoke alarm, the product label, User's Manual or Warranty should state the expected useful life of the smoke detector. For example, smoke alarms with the UL label have been certified with an expected useful life of 10 years."

Re: Faulty Enermax Liberty ELT620AWT
So if it is the glue causing the problem then is the power supply a good design overall? Maybe even reliable?

Re: Power supply build quality pictorial
Decided to clean the PS3. Very dusty but the powersupply was clean. Sorry for the blurry photos. I swear it looked good on the tiny screen on the camera....Last edited by mutant; 07-16-2008, 08:05 AM.
