  • Re: Sony KDL-46S4100 Vertical black line..Screen damage?

sorry for the delay in replying..holidays ugh!

anyways when I look at the line on the TV (powered on playing a movie) up close it kind of looks like smeared pixels around the outer edge of the line.

Also after a bit of google research it seems that sony , atleast on some older models, had quite a few problems with the polarizer lifting in certain spots.

I would try to replace the polarizer, but from the videos I've seen it can be quite the task to remove the old polarizer and leftover...

  • Re: Sony KDL-46S4100 Vertical black line..Screen damage?

I finally got around to tearing the TV apart today. It was surprisingly easy to get the LCD panel out.well done Sony.
The backside of the panel was a bit hazy (TV came from a smokers home) so I cleaned it thoroughly with eye glass cleaning wipes.
Looking at the backside of the panel I could not see the line at all, but looking at the front side I could see the line clearly. It looks like whatever is causing the line is a layer below the outer panel.
I didn't see any sign of physical damage from a impact...

  • Sony KDL-46S4100 Vertical black line..Screen damage?

    Hello all,

    I found a free working Sony KDL-46S4100 46" TV.
The problem is it has a vertical black line that starts at the bottom of the screen and runs up about to the middle of the screen.
The line is even noticeable when the TV is powered off, so I'm guessing this is some kind of not fixable screen issue. Maybe a coating coming off from cleaning the TV with a fluid? or something delaminating?
Whatever it is it's not on the outer part of the screen it's like its on the inside or between some layers.

Before I harvest the boards and recycle...

When I was searching for ribbon cables on ebay (which I couldn't find any cheap) I found a t-con that included them for under $20.
    It didn't help the problem.

I also tried unhooking 1 half of the t-con at a time to see which side was bad (left side with TV screen facing down in my case), then using scotch tape on various pins on the ribbon cable to see if it made any difference..I finally was able to get that side of the screen to show an image (with the other side unhooked), but after several attempts with tape I ended...

I couldn't find just the ribbon cables cheap on ebay so I ended up buying another t-con that included them and it didn't fix the problem.

I looked at the tab ribbon cables attached to the panel and boards and didn't see any obvious signs of damage.
Also tried touching the tabs with the tv on like I seen people do in youtube videos and it made no difference.

At this point I don't know what else to try..I'm guessing the panel is bad or maybe one of the COF chips in the tab cables is bad, but testing those is probably over my...

    Hi budm,

It has a standalone t-con and the tab boards are on the bottom.
I tried removing the ribbon cables and cleaned them and the connectors with Isopropyl alcohol and it made no difference.
I also tried applying pressure to the tabs to see if anything changed and it didn't.

1 thing I noticed is if the TV has been unplugged for a while when it is first turned on the picture is perfect for 3-4 seconds then the lines start to gradually appear as if they are fading in. (see second picture. sorry it is blurry, I was...

    Hello,

I found this TV in the trash.
It powers on ok, but there are a bunch of vertical lines.
I've never had success with fixing any type of lines on a screen whether they were vertical or horizontal.
I'm guessing this is a tab bond issue..What do you all think?
Before I scavenge the boards and toss the rest, is there anything I can do to try to fix it?

    thanks...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 Black looks green

    thanks budwich.

Yep I'm going to test the panel driver boards (or atleast to the best of my lack of ability lol).
While trying to search for info on youtube i've seen videos showing bypassing the gamma chip using jumper wires..unfortunately the audio is not in English or I'd give it a try as a last resort.

Factory reset didn't help..also saw some youtube videos that suggested reseating the LVDS cable, tried that and it didn't help.

I think when the vacuum was used to dust the top vents in the TV that it must have shorted something in the panel or the board(s) that are tab bonded to the panel.

    anything else to try?

    thanks

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 Black looks green

I tried measuring all the test points I could find on the t-con. they all showed voltages ranging from 1.1v all the way up to 11.2..I have no idea what the correct values should be as I am a noob.

I tried disconnecting 2 of the ribbon cables at a time from one side of the t-con and powering on.
With the left 2 cables unhooked the left side of the screen starts up in what looks like some kind of a greyscale pattern that eventually turns all black while the right side is green (should be black).
    With the right side...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 Black looks green

I returned the ebay t-con and bought another 1 from a different seller on ebay.
The second t-con was listed as a CPT370WA03C 4C2, but when I received it it was in fact a 4C and not 4C2 (part number in the white box on the t-con) needless to say I tried it anyway, but still have the same problem.
Could not being the exact same part number be the problem?

I'm thinking the problem is with the board that attaches the t-con to the pannel in which case probably is not fixable?

I forgot to say in my original...

  • Re: Insignia NS-LCD37 Black looks green

I ended up buying a T-Con on eBay and it helped very little with the green problem.
Before a black screen was totally green now it is black with lots of green dots in it.
With the eBay T-Con I have a new problem that whites now look light purple/pinkish.

Also with both T-Cons I have a vertical line on the left side of the screen and several diagonal lines.

I will test the t-con when I take the TV back apart (rookie mistake..put it back together too soon).

The model of my T-Con is CPT370WA03C...

  • Insignia NS-LCD37 Black looks green

    Hello,

Pitch black scenes look green. other colors and shades of grey seem OK.
From the bit of searching I have done most suggest reseating the LVDS cable which I plan on trying, but if that doesnt help what is likely the problem..bad t-con and/or panel?

    thanks...

  • Re: Jensen JE1907DC 12v RV TV

1 last effort before I give up.

Since I seem to be getting the right volatages do you all think my problem is likely with the main board, mores specifically the eeprom?

Since there doesn't seem to be any parts available for this TV it would probably be near impossible to replace the eeprom ( if thats the problem?) without having a eeprom dump?

    thanks

  • Re: Jensen JE1907DC 12v RV TV

I was probing around the mainboard today and the resistor in the upper left of the pic measured 000 and the one on the upper right measured 1. (circled in the pic)

Is the resistor that measured 000 acting as some type of fuse?
The other that measured 1 ( I tried all ohms settings on DMM) shorted and therefore bad?

They were tested in circuit..should I test them out of circuit?

    thanks...

Were you able to test the TV by unplugging the button board and powering it on via the remote?

    thanks...

  • Re: Jensen JE1907DC 12v RV TV

yes that is how they are connected.
I'm pretty sure the problem is something to do with the main board from what I've read online.
The thing I don't get is why would heating the button board make the TV stay on?

Sorry for the late reply, it's been a hectic week.

As budwich suggested if you could unplug the button board and see if the TV turns on using the remote and works ok that would be a good test.

    thanks

I'm not sure what else to do.
If the button board is needed for the TV to work is there a way I can "trick" the TV into working without the board?
Could I ad up the values of the resistors on the board then put together a set of resistors to equal that value and connect it to the cable that goes from the button board to the main board then use the remote to turn the TV on?

    thanks
